LIP Reduction

Lip reduction is a cosmetic procedure that many women and men are interested in having performed. The cosmetic procedure is carried out either under a local anesthetic or (if the patient prefers) under a general anesthetic. 
There are different techniques, however, in lip reduction, one can expect the surgeon to make an incision that typically runs the length of the lips and is located inside of the mouth, although incisions are sometimes made at the border of the lips.
Once the incision is made, the surgeon will remove excess tissue from one or both lips and then close the incisions with sutures. An antibiotic-soaked piece of gauze may be placed between the lips and gums immediately after surgery. The scars following lip reduction are usually not visible as the incisions are typically placed on the inside of the lips. If dissolvable sutures are not used, sutures are removed within seven to ten days after the procedure.
A lip reduction procedure, as with all surgeries, carries some risk. Some of the possible risks that can occur with lip reduction is asymmetry, bleeding, infection, permanent numbness, and scarring. After lip reduction surgery, pain is moderate. However, pain medication is prescribed for any discomfort you may experience.
